Watch: Neil Young With Foo Fighters, The Black Keys, Band Of Horses And K’Naan – ‘Rockin’ In The Free World’

Those lucky punters who attended the Globan Citizen Festival in New York’s Central Park overnight were treated to the ultimate finale.

Headliner Neil Young brought members of all four bands who had played before him – Foo Fighters, The Black Keys, Band of Horses, and K’Naan – on stage to perform his iconic hit Rockin’ in the Free World.

Foo’s frontman, Dave Grohl, bopped along with Young and his band on guitar, while members of the other bands who weren’t playing instruments jumped on stage to belt out backing vocals during the choruses.

It’s not the first time an all-star lineup has converged to do Rockin’ in the Free World: U2’s Bono and Edge famously joined Pearl Jam for a surprise performance of the song to kick-start the Make Poverty History Concert in Melbourne in 2006.

One of the co-organisers of that concert was Hugh Evans, who is currently the CEO of the Global Poverty Project, the crew who put this weekend’s concert on under the Global Citizen banner.

To earn themselves a free ticket to the festival, concertgoers had to perform charitable acts to raise awareness of extreme poverty. This included posting information on social media, donating money to charity or signing a petition.
