Watch: Paris Hilton Butchers Gotye In Her Premiere DJ Set

Well, it’s been an average week for the electronic dance music scene. It started off with Pendulum announcing their split, then Swedish House Mafia followed suit, stating that their current tour would be their last. Now to replace those two high quality acts, is the newest DJ on the block, Paris Hilton.

Paris debuted her new DJ set, obviously inspired by her other half, Afrojack, in Sao Paulo, Brazil for their annual Pop Festival. The festival also featured Jennifer Lopez, Kelly Clarkson, and a few others, but the real highlight truly was Paris.

What made the set even worse was that Paris herself could not actually DJ entirely, constantly receiving help from an onstage hand, who seemed to have a better grasp of the basic DJing skills than she did. To add to the hillarities, the slip-ups were present left, right and centre.

Paris took the stage, sporting studded headphones, and was accompanied by an onstage hand, who seemed to fix the mixer whenever Paris touched something, evening out the levels and the EQ’s. Her setlist seemed to include all the commercial dance hits, including Levels, calling even her own songs. However, when premiering one of her new songs, Paris accidentally played Calvin Harris and Rihanna’s summer anthem We Found Love, causing some confusion amongst the crowd, before she took to the microphone, singing bits of her collaboration with Afrojack.

A notable aspect of her performance was the presence of Australian artists, including Gotye and Angus & Julia stone. I’m sure she meant well, and is a fan of the songs, which is fantastic; however, the Gotye x Avicii combination wasn’t doing anything for me. It would be rude to completely rip on Paris after her first set, as it would be quite a hard skill to grasp; however, it has pissed many people off, with EDM King, Deadmau5 posting the video with the caption “AS I WAS SAYING… its over”.

Before you watch the two videos below (be nice) be sure to look out for the blunder at 2:49 (first video) whereby Paris forgets to ‘fake effect’ raising the question of whether it was a pre-made set or not.
