Watch: Smashing Pumpkins ‘Rock In Rio’ Performance (With Bowie + Kiss Covers)

The Smashing Pumpkins performed a massive 19-song set at the Rock in Rio festival in Lisbon, Portugal over the weekend. Amongst some songs from their upcoming album Oceania. They also managed to perform many of their back catalogue, including three songs from 1993 album Siamese Dream and five from 1995’s Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.

But the real surprise of the night came in the form of a massive rendition of David Bowie’s 1969 hit Space Oddity, and then later pulling out classic Kiss song Black Diamond (which you can watch towards the end of the video below).

Smashing Pumpkins will tour Australia on the back of their appearance on the Spelendour in the Grass 2012 lineup this July. Dubbed the Oceania tour, after their new album, they’ll be playing shows in Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, and then flying over to play in Auckland. Wolfmother will support the band on their Sydney and Melbourne dates.
