Travis Barker has released the first episode in what is to be a series of instructional videos teaching fledgling drummers how to pound the skins as proficiently as the man himself. The web series is titled The Crash Course and can be found on Barker’s YouTube Channel. The first instalment begins with some warm-up techniques, including stretches with drumsticks and some drumming exercises that Barker makes look more simple than they probably are.
The new series may come as little consolation to Australian fans, who were hit with the news that Barker would not be joining Blink-182 for Soundwave about one week before the festival began. Barker’s failure to honour his commitments led to a Twitter feud with Soundwave boss AJ Maddah, who claimed the drummer was demanding to still be paid despite not appearing.
After a scathing back and forth the two parties eventually cleared the air but the ordeal left Barker’s reputation tarnished, as evident from a recent article by Dying Scene, in which the website characterises the drummer as a ‘full-time douche‘.
Perhaps Barker’s new free web series will help endear him once again with disgruntled fans and media.
