WOMADelaide 2012 Line-up – First Announcement

The first WOMADelaide 2012 line-up has been announced. Next year’s milestone event in Adelaide’s Botanic Park from 9-12 March will see festival favourites and some of the biggest names from all over the world join the music celebration.

Some of this year’s acts include Mali’s stunning desert blues musicians Tinariwen; the Master Drummers of Burundi, considered among the world’s best and most dynamic percussion ensembles; India’s santoor virtuoso Shivkumar Sharma; Ireland’s queen of the accordion Sharon Shannon and her eight-piece Big Band; the French chanson-gypsy sound of Lo’Jo; and Australia’s Blue King Brown and the Pigram Brothers.

In addition, WOMADelaide 2012 will feature premiere festival performances from the inspirational Staff Benda Bilili, originating from the streets of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo; Scotland’s exquisite songbird Eddi Reader; South Africa’s iconic Johnny Clegg, who in the 70s established the template for fusing Western pop and English vocals with Zulu rhythms; the innovative Spanish flamenco-fusion sensation Diego Guerrero Septet; Swedish folk duo First Aid Kit; Jamaican reggae giants Groundation; the extraordinary Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain and many more.
