Ivy League has announced its latest signing – Wons Phreely. His real name is Justin Wonsley Snowball and he has been described as an eclectic cross between Jarvis Cocker and Elvis Costello, but to keep things normal he simply goes by the name of Wons Phreely.
After releasing his well received The Rules Of Nature EP, Wons did what any budding young artist would do; set off on an odyssey travelling the world for a year and a half. After living in three of the world’s most vibrant city centres – London, Berlin and outer state New York, Wons began to funnel a diet of new experiences, hard-partying, contemporary and classic hip-hop and underground electro into his newfound inspiration to observe life.
Wons Phreely’s first release on Ivy League is an electrifying three-minute pop gem called “The World Has A Bank Account”, which follows the classic Springsteen tradition of combining dark lyrics with bright melodies. The single, along with the music video, are being serviced to radio on the 4th of May and available from iTunes on May 18.
In May 2010 Wons Phreely and his new look line-up will be playing select dates with Dan Kelly as follows:
Saturday 15th May
Northcote Social Club (Melbourne)
Friday 28th May
The Spectrum (Sydney)
Saturday 29th May
