To celebrate the release of their most recent offering Always, Brooklyn’s Xiu Xiu will be returning to our shores for a run of shows through Perth, Sydney, Brissy and Melbourne.
Continuing in Xiu Xiu fashion, Always is a release of ultimate force, both in physical sound pressure and remarkable cerebral song visions. Though unlike previous albums, Always will have a much harder edge, with beats that have a tendency to shove, rather than gently nudge like they have in the past. The post-punk vibe of the album is said to be at times overwhelming, though, more often than not, similarities appear between this and Fabulous Muscles or Women as Lovers – two career-defining releases from the band.
Coming Down Under on invitation to Room 40’s Open Frame Festival, this will be the first time we’ve seen the band since 2010. Given mastermind Jamie Stewart’s willingness to broach any subject, finding him confronted by both the topical and the intimate in equally meaningful ways, the performance is set to be both spiritual and intimate.
