Zayn Malik Cancels Wembley Arena Gig 90 Minutes Before Due To Anxiety

Former One Direction member Zayn Malik was due to play his first solo gig at Wembley Stadium over the weekend but pulled out 90 minutes before he was due to hit the stage, citing “crippling anxiety”.

Malik released his debut solo album Mind Of Mine back in March and was billed as one of the headliners of London’s Summertime Ball festival.

The singer flew in from New York for the event but pulled out just over an hour before his scheduled performance with a disappointed crowd told that he would not be appearing “due to illness”.

The singer later took to social media to explain his reasoning for not appearing.

“My anxiety that has haunted throughout the last few months around live performances has gotten the better of me,” he wrote.

“With the magnitude of the event, I have suffered the worst anxiety of my career.”

He apologised to the fans that he had let down and told them that he would make it up to them. He also added that “those who suffer anxiety” will understand.

Malik is no stranger to playing large venues. One Direction have headlined arenas and stadiums around the world and have also played Wembley Stadium as a five-piece. Despite grabbing a worldwide hit with his debut solo single Pillowtalk, Malik is yet to perform live for large audiences.

Ariana Grande, Little Mix, Nick Jonas, Years And Years and more all still took to the stage to perform at the Summertime Ball despite Malik’s absence.
