Austra – ‘Utopia’

Big-voiced Canadian Austra has announced her return, with her third album Future Politics due to arrive in January 2017.

It’s preceded by first single Utopia, which has immediately been given a hypnotising and haunting visual. It’s the perfect match for a song which is dark and brooding, with a glassy fragility.

The video was directed by THAT GO, who has also directed videos for Chairlift, Father John Misty and Lapsley, and it’s likely to creep you out while still looking visually stunning.

It’s said to represent the near-future, with THAT GO explaining, “The video is more near-future than distant-future, with recognizable technology and modern protein sources.”

Future Politics will be Austra’s first album since 2013 and is described by the Canadian as, “A commitment to replace the approaching dystopia.”

It’s both a political and dancefloor-ready record that was made in Montreal and Mexico City, and inspired by economic and philosophical texts.
