BIGSOUND 2014: Thelma Plum On Keeping Things “Chill”

BIGSOUND 2014 is a pretty “wild” place according to Brisbane singer-songwriter Thelma Plum, who we managed to catch up with the day after her stellar showcase, which by then had became the talk of the conference.

“It was really fun,” she said humbly. While an industry conference such as BIGSOUND offers many rising performers a chance to schmooze with key industry players, Plum says she leaves that stuff up to the professionals.

“I just try to chill out a little bit. I trust my manager and my team that they’ll do the industry side of things and they trust me to do my side of things like perform and smile at people.”

Plum recently released her M-Phazes produced single How Much Does Your Love Cost?, the first track of her EP Monsters. The EP has picked up rave reviews but that too is not something Plum is concerned with.

“When it’s out there it’s out there and..if you get too stuck in your mind about, ‘People are going to like this. People aren’t going to like this’…it’s a little bit futile doing that. So I’ll put it out in the universe, hopefully good things will come.”
