Interview: Charli XCX – New Album, Live Shows, Parklife Tour, Coldplay Performance
At only 19, UK siren Charli XCX has achieved more than most musicians will in their entire lifetime. 2012 has been the year of Charli XCX, with internationally respected taste makers such as Pitchfork, Gorilla Vs Bear, Hype Machine, and Rolling Stone all simultaneously placing the ‘Next Big Thing’ sign squarely above her head.
In town for Parklife 2012, Charli caught up with the Music Feeds team to get the goss. This marks her first time ever in Australia. Taken in by the people – who love to party, the weather, and all the cities, Charli is also keeping a keen eye out for a shark attack. Having caught her performance at Parklife, we chat a bit about the songstress’ live shows, and how the raw energy comes about while they are on stage. Charli compares her festival performance to the shows supporting Coldplay on their recent tour.
Already with a handful of EPs and singles on the market, Charli is now turning her attention to her debut full-length release. The yet-to-be-named album was very recently scrapped by the musician, who found herself seduced by further influences and elements that she wanted to incorporate. With a release date of early 2013, everyone is watching to see how Charli XCX handles the LP side of things, but looking back at her You’re the One EP and her next mixtape, I’m sure we have nothing at all to worry about.
