Interview: Grinspoon – Letting Them Say Whatever They Want

Phil and Pat from Grinspoon are two dudes who have a lot to talk about at the moment. Not only has the band returned to their former glory on the latest release Black Rabbit, but they are also fresh from the Big Day Out 2013 circuit, moments from embarking on their own headlining tour, and of course everything going on inbetween all that goodness.

Though they are no strangers to the Big Day Out machine, the pair both seem to agree that 2013 was one of the best versions (if not the best) of the festival that they had ever played. According to Pat, people seemed to appreciate having the band there. Last year the band only performed on the Sydney leg of the fest as ‘special guests’, though fans all over the country got their fix this time round.

Between the Gold Coast leg and the Adelaide Leg, Phil strapped on the helmet and donned the leather for the Rock N Ride trek that took place between the two cities. Accompanied by a troupe of other musicians and creatives, Phil rode for charity, raising awareness for Headspace and the great work that they do to help out.

Already with the maiden single Passerby safely released, the band is looking towards the 2nd single, Branded. Phil explains in some depth what the inspiration was behind that track – popularity vs love, and ignoring what people say. Awesome stuff!

Next up, the boys will be bringing the tunes to a venue near you. Grinspoon will head off on a twenty-something date run of headlining shows. Keep an eye out for that one!
