Interview: The Chemist – Soundtracking A Junkyard Ballet

Yet another bourgeoning act to emerge from the eagerly watched Perth music scene, The Chemist are gearing up to add their debut album Ballet in the Badlands to their back catalogue, which already holds two EPs.

With a few weeks left until the album’s release date of Friday, 22nd March, The Chemist have hit the road for a run of dates with a secret agenda – to find the perfect cheeseburger. Benjamin, Chris and Hamish filled us in on where the search is currently at when they stopped by for an interview before we got down to the brass tacks.

Ballet in the Badlands is full of contradictions. Not just in concepts such as Silver & Gold, but also with its tone. As the boys explain, the album hits high moments, but also touches on the lows. With two EPs to look back on, they found the process somewhat easier as they had the luxury of experience, picking and dropping what works and what doesn’t.

As we finish off the chat, we see that The Chemist have touring life down pat, already with a few war wounds from the road.
