Interview: The Rubens Talk New Album ‘Hoops’ And Their Love Of Hip-Hop

Ahead of the release of the highly anticipated new album Hoops we caught up with The Rubens lads to talk about the inspiration behind their sophomore release and how hip-hop music influences their sound.

Chatting to all five of the Menangle mates, presenter Harry chewed the fat over how they spent the three years since their debut and in particular the story behind single Hallelujah, with Elliot telling us “it turned out to be about people forcing their ideas on you, whether it be religion or whatever, and them forcing it so hard they lose it themselves.”

On the heavier presence of hip-hop vibes on the new album the boys also told us “a lot of songs we write just start out as a beat… hip-hop is a great genre to look for inspiration.”

The Rubens will be heading around the country this September, grab all the deets here.
