Having dropped one of the biggest singles the world has seen in the past 20 years, Teenage Dirtbag, Wheatus caught up with the Music Feeds team during a cheeky rehearsal before the band hits the highways.
The band debuted back in 2000 and is fronted by Brendan B Brown (the only original member in the band). The past 12 years have not been easy on Wheatus: they went to war with their record label, fought legal battles, went through lineup changes, and all sorts of other things a lesser band would crumble under the weight of, but not Wheatus. As Brown explains, there was never a time where he wanted to give it up, always wanting to keep the dream alive and as a result, released 5 albums independently, all of which are online and most with a ‘pick what you pay’ payment method.
Fast forward to 2012, Wheatus is now gearing up to perform at Fat As Butter festival in Newcastle as well as a series of headlining dates. Fans can also expect to potentially hear some new material from the boys, who are currently at work on album number 6. Brendan also goes into the back story behind their mega hit, exposing an inspiration that isn’t as fun or cute as the tune itself.
