JOY. – Like Home
Australia’s favourite monosyllabic sensual r’n’b star JOY. is back with her new single Like Home. Produced by the artist in collaboration with New Yorkers Take A Daytrip – the genius production duo behind Raury‘s Home – the track see’s the young powerhouse stretching her vocal muscles and proving that you don’t have to be The Weeknd to make melancholy sexy.
The accompanying video directed by Joel Burrows (Spooklyland – God’s Eyes) and produced by Entropico (The Meeting Tree – Life Is Long: Slow Down) sees JOY. alternatively wandering around a lit up Sydney at 3am and floating over the floor of a warehouse somewhere. Don’t ask me what that’s supposed to mean, but keep an eye out for the surreal sonic distortions of space and trippy lighting they snuck in here and there. Meaning is over-rated anyway.
Busy writing and recording in LA, Like Home is a but a taste of what’s to come from the young Aussie, with tastemakes like Beats1’s Zane Lowe touting her as “One To Watch” at last year’s Beats Sound Symposium. Earning herself a highly coveted spot on the Australian Spotify Spotlight for 2016, and popping up on bills all over the country, JOY.’s journey to stardom has only just begun.
