Julia Jacklin – ‘Pool Party’

Blue Mountains raised singer songwriter Julia Jacklin is not an artist who does thing by half measures. Moving to Sydney and working on a factory assembly line while she honed her craft, she’s now unveiled her video for Pool Party ahead of her appearance at SXSW 2016 in Austin Texas.

A tale of pool side substance abuse told in a drawling country lilt, Pool Party showcases Jacklin’s effortless charm as a singer and insightful lyricist. The clip is gorgeously shot with a vintage feel and complements the song’s atmosphere of longing.

Set to have a big 2016, Jacklin’s journey hasn’t been made overnight, the singer having put aside her early dreams of social work to pursue her love of music. “When I was growing up I was so ambitious; I’m going to be this amazing social worker, save the world, a great musician, fit, an amazing writer” Jacklin recalls. “Then you get to mid-20s and you realize you have to focus on one thing. Even if it doesn’t pay-off, or you feel embarrassed at family occasions because you’re the poor musician still, that’s the decision I made.”

Judging by the critical reception to Pool Party, she’s got nothing to be embarrassed about.
