The Kills – ‘Doing It To Death’

Having just announced a new album to be released by Domino on June 3rd, The Kills have also dropped a new single and video Doing It To Death. Seeing the duo of Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince riding a hearse through a cemetery with a bunch of black clad followers and some dancing clergy over a soundtrack of thumping drums and brash guitars, it’s quite the return.

Directed by Wendy Morgan and shot in Los Angeles, the clip’s gothic aesthetic and simple yet effective choreography matches the song’s stripped back style and brooding tone. Always one for a touch of melodrama, Hince and Mosshart are clearly having a great time mean mugging for the cameras on the hood of the hearse, although they keep their game faces on throughout.

The first we’ve heard from Hince and Mosshart since 2011’s Blood Pressures, Hince having had to relearn to play guitar with a permanently damaged finger despite multiple surgeries, the duo have lost none of the energy of their earlier work. Still dripping in attitude and sex appeal, Doing It To Death proves that five years between drinks is nothing to The Kills.
