Mike Waters – ‘Feels Like Home’

Melbourne singer-songwriter Mike Waters has unveiled a love letter to summer festival season – and to his fans – in the form of a stunning new music video for his latest single, Feel Like Home.

The clip, which is the result of a collaboration with his fans, features the indie muso performing inside his house, surrounded by a collage of festival happy snaps.

Waters reached out to his fans to submit their favourite festival photos to help breathe life into the song, which he wrote as a tribute to Splendour In The Grass.

“I wrote Feels Like Home, last year just after a pretty brutal house hunt,” the troubadour explains. “…At the time I was struggling to write any songs. Everything I wrote I didn’t like; there was a lot on my mind at the time. The house that I’d just moved into was the sixth place I’d lived in four years, and I hadn’t really felt that sense of ‘home’ for a really long time.

“Anyway, I was lucky enough to get away for a weekend to Splendour in the Grass and it was a huge injection of inspiration and motivation,” he continues. “I got lost in the vibe of this huge temporary city that just appeared in the wilderness and I was overcome by this incredible sense of nostalgia that I remember from when I was younger.

“When I came home I just knew exactly what I wanted to write about – I wrote Feels Like Home about what home means to me, about having this new home, about how feeling music in a crowd is this unique, shared human experience, and about writing music from the heart.”

On the subject of the music video, he says: “I wanted to squeeze all of those elements in. It made sense to me to film the video in my house, and it was in that lounge room that I mixed the final song too. I even tracked the vocals in that room. With all of that in mind I asked everyone on social media to submit their best festival photos and memories to use, because I just wanted everyone to be a part of it.”

Waters is also currently getting ready to embark on a four-date national tour for Feels Like Home this October. You can check out the tour dates via his official Facebook page.
