Soundwave 2015: Gerard Way Wants To Work With Sleater-Kinney, Grimes And Antemasque
Last time we had Gerard Way in the country he was touring with his band My Chemical Romance but they’ve since parted ways and Way is flying the solo flag.
“Whether I continued music or not or whether I became a solo artist, it was 100% time for me to move on from My Chemical Romance,” Way said chatting to Music Feeds from Soundwave in Melbourne.
Way’s debut album Hesitant Alien only came out in September of last year but he’s already looking towards the next one. “The plan was to finish this bit of touring, have a bit of time off…and then go into the studio in September,” he said.
There could be some exciting collaborations on the horizon too. Though he hasn’t approached anyone yet, he’s got his eye on two artists in particular. “I love Sleater-Kinney, I love Grimes. I think we could do something really cool together,” he said.
He’s also a big fan of Antemasque who are also on the Soundwave lineup meaning they could potentially have a chat about joining forces while down-under.
Way doesn’t plan to return to Australia until he has another album out but it’s likely he’ll be playing smaller venues second time round. “This is a place I feel I need to build,” he said. “It would be nice to come back and do some clubs and really connect with the audience and kind of build that way…I know this is a place I’m going to have to keep coming back to and I’m excited about that.”
