This Wild Life – ‘Over It’ (Live At Music Feeds Studio)

We were recently lucky enough to have up-and-coming Long Beach acoustic pop punk duo This Wild Life come into Music Feeds Studio during their debut tour supporting Jonny Craig. After sitting down for a quick interview, during which they explained why they prefer being the odd ones out on a bill, the guys delighted us with two heartfelt performances of tracks from their debut album, Clouded.

The cathartic Over It exemplifies the band’s trademark style. Anthony‘s intricate and melodic fingerpicking accompany lush streams of chords as Kevin‘s intimate, diary-like lyrics resonate with his honeyed vocals, which he says are inspired by everyone from singers in the hardcore and punk scene he and Anthony came up in, to Sara Bareilles.

The band’s varied influences have led them to finding comfort in being the odd ones out in their scene and on bills with other bands. “We’re always kind of the odd man out,” said Kevin. “We actually prefer it. We like playing with the bands from the scene we grew up listening to. So we don’t mind playing with hardcore bands, metal bands. I think it’s okay to stand out, and to be honest we’ve never toured with any acoustic bands. We’re used to it.”
