Watch: FKA twigs – ‘Pendulum’
Everyone knows what it’s like to have a bad hair day, but FKA twigs takes the concept to a whole new level in her brand spanking new video for Pendulum. The single, hot off her debut LP, the suitably titled LP1, sees the avant-pop songstress strung up by her own hair in a follicular take on the Japanese-style of bondage known as shibari.
But according to twigs herself, it’s got nothing to do with having an S&M fetish. “Using my own hair represents me at one time being suspended and held back by my own fears,” she tells Rolling Stone in a recent interview.
The former Jessie J backup dancer also directed the surreal new clip, much of which depicts her constrained by her bonds in a variety of tense poses and thus unable to move or dance, until she finally breaks free.
And it’s a good thing too, otherwise she might have been too tied up to make it to her performance at this year’s Laneway Festival, which kicks off on January 31st in Brisbane. Aussie fans can also buy tickets to catch twigs at her extra Laneway sideshows in Sydney and Melbourne, which were announced after the first round sold out.
