WATCH: Holidays On Ice – ‘Broken’
Holidays On Ice is Angie Hart of Frente!, Dean Manning of Leonardo’s Bride, and the one and only Stella Mozgawa of Warpaint. Their third album, The Luxury of Wasted Space, was produced and recorded by Manning in his living room on an eight-track reel-to-reel, and will be released on Friday, 4th April. Fans can hear the first taste of the album, the shimmering, melancholy Broken, now.
“I love the space, the art on the wall, my grandma’s old piano, the wooden floor boards. I left everything set up for a year. Angie and Stella dropped in off and on, as did various friends and guests. We ran out of tape at one point. Then we found out they don’t make that tape anymore. Then someone sent us this new stuff that kind of disintegrated before our eyes. We got there in the end, just,” said Manning of the process behind The Luxury of Wasted Space.
Broken has its genesis in the 2006 film Candy. Lou Reed had barred the producers from using The Velvet Underground’s Sunday Morning and they were looking for someone to “rewrite” it. The challenge took Manning seven years to complete and now sees its release, accompanied by a claymation tribute to Countdown.
