WATCH: Kelis – ‘Rumble’
Kelis‘ Food hasn’t even seen its release date yet and already critics are hailing it as one of the finest works of this neo-R&B queen, whose characteristically idiosyncratic and forward-thinking records like Wanderland and Kaleidoscope have made her a favourite of everyone from soul fans to The Neptunes. Kelis has now offered fans the latest taste of the new album (no pun intended), Rumble.
Food is the follow-up to 2010’s acclaimed Flesh Tone and was produced by Dave Sitek, known for his work with Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Beady Eye, and as a member of highly acclaimed art rockers TV On The Radio. Fans and critics alike have praised Sitek’s production on Food, citing his combination of retro horns and contemporary electronics.
Kelis recently reintroduced herself to the world at SXSW in Austin, Texas. Having not performed for the last three years, several outlets described the performance as worth the wait. A series of intimate lead-up performances received a warm reception from fans, with Kelis now backed by a 12-piece band, complete with horn section and backup singers.
