WATCH: Mr Little Jeans – ‘Good Mistake’
Monica Birkenes aka Mr. Little Jeans has been kicking around for a while now and has finally unleashed her long-awaited debut album, Pocketknife. The title is as sharp as the production, which is as crisp as Birkenes’ vocals. Just see for yourself on the album’s flagship single, Good Mistake, which Birkenes has accompanied with a very intriguing, noir-like music video.
“It is small but has a million uses. It can open locks, cut ties and be used as a weapon or even for first aid,” said Birkenes of her choice of album title. “I see it as an extension of yourself that symbolizes strength, intelligence and courage.” Birkenes could not have chosen a better title, with the album characterised by icy synths that stab like breaking sunlight and airy vocals that change in tone from one second to the next.
Birkenes first turned international heads with her haunting cover of Arcade Fire’s The Suburbs. “I like trying to capture the mood and intent of somebody else’s story,” said Birkenes of her memorable rendition. Readers will now be able to hear Mr Little Jeans tell her own story.
