WATCH: Pixies – ‘Magdalena’
Grunge progenitors and all-round indie and alternative rock legends, the Pixies, have announced the release of their new music video for Magdalena, the latest single from their recently-unveiled EP-2–part of the band’s creative tear since their resurgence last year, which saw the band’s iconic bassist, Kim Deal, leave the band amid recording sessions for EP-1.
According to a statement released by the band, this new clip was conceived and directed by Judy Jacob, who was behind some of the moody and stylistic short films and video elements used during the band’s highly successful 2009-2011 Doolittle world tour. The clip also stars British dance/theatre/performance artist Nando Messias.
Magdalena is the follow-up to the band’s previous EP-2 single, Blue Eyed Hexe, which dropped upon release of the EP. As frontman Black Francis tells it, the new single is “basically a blues-shape with a Beatles-esque left turn, and a lot of Pixies-referential lyrics.” The band is currently embarking on the North American leg of their 2013-2014 world tour and will soon be heading to South America.
