WATCH: Sam Smith – ‘Money On My Mind’

Winner of the BBC Sound of 2014, Sam Smith is jumping straight into the game, releasing the video for Money On My Mind, the lead single on his upcoming debut album In The Lonely Hour, set for release 26 May 2014.

21 year-old Smith, first hit airwaves when he collaborated with Disclosure on the track Latch. His soul stylings were featured again last year on Naughty Boy’s hit La La La. Now the singer is ready to step out on his own, singing of course about doing it “for the love,” not the cash.

There’s a distinct r’n’b quality to Smith’s voice, reminiscent even of the genres iconic divas. Said Smith told the BBC, they were a large inspiration in his musical upbringing. “It’s all I listened to,” he said. “I actually didn’t listen to male vocalists until about two years ago. I just listened to Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan. Massive voices.”
