New South Wales singer-songwriter Steve Smyth was this week involved in an incident which left him with a broken jaw after he was allegedly assaulted by two men on Enmore road in Newtown. His injuries have forced him to reschedule his current tour.
According to a statement, Steve allegedly witnessed an altercation while on his way home with his brother, and suffered a broken jaw after attempting to defuse the situation. He is currently recovering from surgery at Sydney’s RPA hospital.
His brother Jake, who owns cult Sydney bar and burger joint Mary’s, has said that Steve is sore, but in good spirits. Doctors are still unsure of the exact recovery time needed and estimate Smyth will be out of action from anywhere between two to six weeks. The incident is under investigation by the Newtown Police.
As a result, some of the remaining dates on Smyth’s current Exits album tour have been cancelled and will be rescheduled. So far Steve Smyth’s upcoming shows in Brisbane, Canberra, Springwood and Taree have been cancelled. All the other shows are at this stage going ahead.
