Mere weeks before he’s due to tour Australia alongside Mötley Crüe for the Down Under leg of their final-ever world tour, Godfather of shock rock Alice Cooper has shed more light on his next musical release. Cooper says the album collaboration he’s been cooking up with supergroup The Hollywood Vampires, which we already know features Johnny Depp, is “done, mixed [and] ready to go”.
Speaking to Billboard, Cooper has also revealed a few more of the superstar cameos appearing alongside Paul McCartney and Aerosmith’s Joe Perry on the forthcoming covers LP.
“(Ringo Starr’s son) Zak’s on it. Dave Grohl is on it, (AC/DC frontman) Brian Johnson – and in places where you wouldn’t expect them to be,” Cooper said. “That’s the cool thing.”
As previously reported, the album will stand as a tribute the shock rocker’s former 1970’s drinking crew, also called The Hollywood Vampires, many of whom have since passed away.
“I can’t really say [what covers will be on the album] right now,” Cooper continued. “But if you think of it, who were the Hollywood Vampires? John Lennon was there. Jim Morrison was an early Vampire. We had Jimi Hendrix, Keith Moon of course, Harry Nilsson, Marc Bolan. Those guys were all Vampires.”
The guillotine-happy singer also joked: “The performers have to be dead. Or mentally dead. Or should be dead.”
While no release date has been set yet, Cooper says he hopes the LP will come out later on this year.
Eager fans might be able to learn more by catching Alice live supporting Crüe on their joint arena tour, next month.
