Justin Bieber has spoken out about his disdain for awards shows, calling them “hollow” in his latest Instagram missive, after performing at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night.
“I don’t know about these award shows,” he wrote, before launching off on why he finds them so problematic.
Making sure to be clear he holds no personal grudges, the 22-year-old pop star said he means “no disrespect to anybody at any of the shows or the people running it. Nothing but love for you guys and your support.”
The disclaimer didn’t really hold up for long though as he explained that he feels “a lot of people in the audience there [seem to be] worried about how much camera time they will get or who they can network with.”
Later saying that “these award shows seem so hollow,” his told fans “I don’t feel good when I’m there nor after.”
Instagram has become the singer’s platform of choice for communication with his fans since embarking on his Purpose world tour, and this also isn’t the first time the Beebs has used it to air his views and discomfort with some of the more social aspects of being so god damn famous.
Having cancelled all future meet-and-greets for his current tour, he used the Gram to explain how “drained and unhappy” they leave him. He also used the platform to reveal he wouldn’t take photos with fans anymore, because it makes him feel like a “zoo animal.”
Bieber sees himself as more of a free-range pop-star then we must assume, although the photo of these free-roaming sheep he posted to Instagram alongside his awards show rant might be more of a jab at the music industry’s lack of individuality.
