Much-fussed-about London talent Katy B has revealed that she has plans for a tour to Australia some time later this year. It will be the young star of dubstep’s first foray to these shores, in support of her recent debut album On A Mission.
Katy B, real name Kathleen Brien, announced her intentions during an interview with Tom and Alex on Triple J Breakfast, saying, “I’ve got a tour coming up in April in the UK and then I’ve got another tour in autumn and then I’m coming to Australia actually… later on in the year. I’m not too sure whether I’m meant to be saying anything but I know I’m definitely coming to Australia this year. I actually can’t wait.”
The world went rather wild for the 21-year-old in 2010 on the back of her first two singles, Katy On A Mission and Lights On. Both of those made the top ten in the UK singles chart, as did most recent single Broken Record – not that singles charts are any measure of anything these days, of course.
The acclaimed LP On A Mission came out through Columbia in April and features the production skills of DJ Zinc, Benga of Magnetic Man and Geeneus. The album has seen her rocket to the summit of commercial UK dubstep, while a fourth single from On A Mission, Easy Please Me, is due for release later this year.
Watch this space for further details of the Australian tour, I suppose. Festival appearances seem fairly likely.
