Toy Company Hasbro Now Owns Gangster Rap Label Death Row Records

O…kay, sure.

Death Row Records, best known for putting out records such as Dr. Dre’s The Chronic, Snoop Dogg’s Doggystyle and Tupac’s All Eyez on Me during the 90s, is now owned by Hasbro, the toy and games company best known for My Little Pony, Furby and Monopoly.

It’s not as weird as it sounds: the acquisition comes after Hasbro paid $4 billion to own Canadian studio Entertainment One, which, along with owning children’s franchises like Peppa Pig and PJ Masks, just so happens to have purchased Death Row’s catalogue in 2013.

Death Row was founded in 1991 by Suge Knight, Dr. Dre and Michael “Harry O” Harris. It was forced to declare bankruptcy in 2006, and has gone through a number of hands since.

In a statement, Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner said “The acquisition of eOne adds beloved story-led global family brands that deliver strong operating returns to Hasbro’s portfolio and provides a pipeline of new brand creation driven by family-oriented storytelling.”

It’s unclear at this point when the Monopoly Man is going to start his decadent rap career.
