Chance The Rapper, Janelle Monáe, Sia & More Call For Justice Following Death Of George Floyd

Chance The Rapper, Janelle Monáe, and Ice Cube have joined an army of artists and people calling for justice following the death of George Floyd. George Floyd was a 46 year-old, African American man who died in Minneapolis on Monday night, following an arrest when a police officer kneeled on his neck.

Reports say the police officers responded to a call from a grocery store that claimed the man had used a forged cheque. The officers alleged that George Floyd had “physically resisted officers” and he “appeared to be under the influence”.

However, video footage of the incident surfaced, showing Floyd on the ground shouting “I cannot breathe” and “don’t kill me” to the office who continued to kneel on his neck. In the background of the video, a witness can be heard yelling, “Bro, he’s not even fucking moving”.

While another witness asks the police officer, “You’re going to just sit there with your knee on his neck?”

The four officers who were involved in the incident were fired, however, no criminal charges were placed on any officers involved. Now, people are calling for justice for George Floyd and want the officers responsible for Floyd’s death prosecuted.

Chance The Rapper has joined calls for justice, sharing a list of African American lives lost to police brutality.

John Boyega, Janelle Monáe, Ice Cube, and Sia are just a few of the artists who have echoed the statement.
