Tones And I Was 2020’s Global Number One Songwriter

According to a report that is due to be published soon by music rights data platform Blokur, Tones And I was the number one songwriter in the world in 2020.

The platform, who claims to work with over 70% of the music publishing sector, says they have come up with a way to collate data, and create chart information which shows last year’s most popular songwriters on streaming services.

The report is due to be shared in its entirety next week, however Blokur gave Music Business Worldwide the hot scoop on their methodology and some early indicators of what their findings will reveal.

Basically speaking, the more times a song appeared on different streaming services, the more weight it held in Blokur’s charts.

They revealed, according to their findings, the top ten global songwriters of 2020, which included Tones And I in the top spot, Roddy Ricch in at number two, Finneas O’Connell at number three, and Drake coming in at fourth.

Tones And I holds 100% of the writing credits for her record-breaking single ‘Dance Monkey’, which in 2019, became the longest running number one hit in ARIA Chart history. It has also broken the two billion mark on Spotify, and the one and a half billion views mark on Youtube.

Her debut album, Welcome To The Madhouse is due to land next week on Friday, 16th July.

The full report is due to be shared in the days ahead.
