Strum A Note Up In The Wires: Jimmy Hawk & The Endless Party

When I beelined to Buffalo Club a couple weeks back for Foxx on Fire’s EP launch, I also stumbled across awesome local band Jimmy Hawk & The Endless Party. Hells YEAH I feel lucky to be living in a town with one of the most incredible live music scenes.

Jimmy Hawk (Moniker. Has to be; it’s too cool to be real, right?) has a four-piece band backing him – Thomas Van Der Vliet, Nic Dupleix-Pyke, Jack Wilson and Troy Ramaekers –  and together they make a dreamy, folk-rock, slightly Americana sound with melodies very easy on the ear and catchy hooks. The boys played a good solid hour at the launch to a fairly sparse crowd (being it was early in the night and punters were still arriving). I could have kept listening happily a while longer, I was enjoying their tunes incredibly. Jimmy Hawk stayed on stage after his own set to play with Foxx on Fire, who I’ve seen him play with in the past. Such an incestuous beast the live music scene!

Watch: A Fever by Jimmy Hawk & The Endless Party

I would love to see these guys play in a bigger space with a more sophisticated sound set up. I think it would take their live show to new levels as the vocals sounded muffled and drowned out at times, but I believe through no fault of their own.

Jimmy Hawk & The Endless Party have two LP’s to their name, debut Echo Park released in 2010 and a self-titled released in October 2011. You can listen to both on their website http://www.jh-ep.us/ . No official shows have been announced of late, but they keep their Facebook page updated with the local gigs they play, so ‘like’ em, keep updated, and “do yourself a favour”..
