Alpine Announce New Album ‘Yuck’, Share Lead Single ‘Foolish’

Melbourne indie band Alpine have announced their second studio album, and it has a “pretty gross” title — Yuck. The group have also shared the first yucky taste of the album in the form of lead single Foolish, which already has its own music video.

Foolish (below) is the first taste of new Alpine since the band’s impressive 2012 debut album, A Is For Alpine. The song pairs acoustic guitar with some hazy strings, and revives those trademark synchronised vocals.

Vocalist Phoebe Bark told triple j that Foolish was partly inspired by “one of those boy experiences – won’t name names… When you kiss somebody that you shouldn’t kiss and you get that quiver and you’re like ‘oh gosh, I shouldn’t be doing this but I’m doing this: Yuck!'”

Co-vocalist Lou James added, “Things in life where your reactions are just yuck, you know? … We’re going to bring yuck back, I think.”

Yuck was co-produced by Alpine guitarist Christian O’Brien and producer Dann Hume, who was at the helm for A Is For Alpine. According to the band, the album is “inspired by a lot of Tropicalia” they discovered by listening to Latin and South American pop from the ’60s and ’70s.

“It’s more collaborative,” Bark said. “So more of us pitching in with writing… [but also] the same old method really, which is very awesome and fun.”

Yuck will be released on 12th June. Catch the music video for Foolish and stream Alpine’s full chat with triple j, below.
