Alt-J Are Bringing Ásgeir Along On Their Australian Tour

Icelandic crooner Ásgeir has been announced as the support act for Alt-J‘s forthcoming Australian tour.

The singer will support the British band on all five dates of the tour which is due to kick off in Brisbane on Friday, 8th May.

Ásgeir is no stranger to Australian shores having graced the stage at Splendour In The Grass last year and at Falls Festival and Southbound over New Years. The Alt-J shows will mark the third time in Australia in under a year for both acts. Alt-J were also on the bill for Falls Festival and visited last October for a mini-tour.

Both artists are clear Australian favourites as demonstrated by the triple j Hottest 100. The countdown, revealed on Australia Day, saw Ásgeir come in at #10 with Kings And Cross while Alt-J boasted three entires in Every Other Freckle (#13), Left Hand Free (#13) and Hunger Of The Pine (#26).

Alt-J’s sophomore record This Is All Yours has been hugely successful for the band. It’s nominated for a Grammy and has been certified gold in Australia indicating sales of more than 35,000.

While Ásgeir has enjoyed huge success in Australia, it’s hard to beat the statistic that one in ten of the Icelandic population own his debut album, In The Silence.

UPDATE 9/04/15: Sydney indie rock outfit Mansionair have also been announced as supports for the Alt-J Australian Tour, appearing at all five shows.
