Arcade Fire have experienced a terrible loss. One of the band’s now iconic papier-mâché bobblehead masks belonging to multi-instrumentalist Richard Parry has been stolen. Like many oversized papier-mâché stage props before it, Parry’s was looted after a show in Connecticut.
“This mask is a one of a kind piece that is an essential component to our live show. We have photos of the theft but rather than press charges we would prefer if the person who took it would get in touch with us to return it,” writes the Montreal outfit in a statement released to Rolling Stone.
“Perhaps this is all an innocent mistake and you meant to leave the venue with your own oversized paper mache rendition of Richard Parry’s head?” While this is obviously possible, the band consider it unlikely and are appealing to anyone with information to contact info@quest-management.com.
Anyone spotting a giant papier-mâché mask made to look like Arcade Fire’s Richard Parry on eBay has been encouraged to get in touch with the band as soon as possible. Music Feeds uncovered a potential lead on Craigslist, however this turned out to be a rendering of a different Richard Parry.
The masks were introduced during the band’s Here Comes the Night Time TV special and were worn during the band’s Brooklyn warehouse show back in October. Speaking to Rolling Stone, frontman Win Butler explained the masks were inspired by Haiti’s famous Carnival.
