Alright, this one’s for the real ones.
If you’ve ever had Audioslave on repeat – or you’re still emotionally recovering from the fact we’ll never get more of them – you might wanna clear some shelf space. Their 2005 sophomore album Out Of Exile is getting a fresh vinyl reissue this June… and yeah, it’s a bit special.
First up: the basics. The record is being remastered and repressed via UMe, landing June 12 – which is already good news given original pressings have basically become collector’s items at this point. We’re talking upwards of $800 USD (roughly $1,200+ AUD) in some corners of the internet, with even the “cheaper” copies still floating around $150 USD (~$225 AUD).
But here’s where it gets spicy: There’s a liquid vinyl edition.
Yep. For the first time ever, Out Of Exile is getting a limited run pressed on black liquid vinyl – designed to match the album’s iconic cover art and housed in a die-cut gatefold so you can actually see the thing in all its weird, hypnotic glory. That version will set you back about $124.98 USD (~$190 AUD), while the standard 180g black vinyl is a much friendlier $37.99 USD (~$60 AUD).
If you need a refresher on why this album matters – Out Of Exile was the moment Audioslave fully locked in as more than just a “supergroup side quest”. Following their massive 2002 debut, this record saw Chris Cornell’s soulful, soaring vocals fuse perfectly with the groove-heavy, riff-driven firepower of Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk.
It gave us ‘Be Yourself’, ‘Your Time Has Come’, and the Grammy-winning ‘Doesn’t Remind Me’ – aka songs that still hit just as hard whether you’re blasting them in your car or spiralling slightly at 2am.
And, as Cornell once shared, it was his most personal work, created from a place of clarity, joy and “the ability to feel loved”.
More than anything, it captured that lightning-in-a-bottle moment where two legendary worlds – Soundgarden and Rage Against the Machine – collided and somehow made something entirely new.
So whether you’re a vinyl collector, a Cornell tragic, or just someone who appreciates a god-tier rock record… this one’s worth a look.
Just maybe don’t wait too long – history suggests these won’t be sitting around for cheap. Suss pre-orders here.
