Watch Baker Boy And JessB Dance Through The National Gallery of Victoria In New ‘Meditjin’ Video

Last month, Baker Boy linked up with New Zealand’s JessB for latest single ‘Meditjin’, a track that was unsurprisingly big on vibes, big on energy. “Music is the meditjin,” sings the Arnhem Land rapper in the song’s chorus, referring to the word for medicine in his native language Yolngu Matha.

Now, Baker and JessB have unveiled the new music video for ‘Meditjin’ filmed at the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, and it’s bloody huge.

“The video for ‘Meditjin’ was such an exciting process to work through, the concept blew my mind, so I was just so pumped we managed to pull all the elements together. I mean filming in the NGV seemed like it was an unachievable vision, but Kate and the team were so on board with the concept and were great to work with!” comments Baker on the video’s creative process.

Set against a backdrop of 19th century European art, the clip features a large group of dancehall dancers and two members of the Baker Boy family – his brother Adam and cousin Tristan.

“We had such an incredible team for this video from the team at the NGV, to the dancers, stylist, makeup artists, everyone was unreal, and was great working with Gabe and Entropico again. I’m just really excited and pumped to release it and share it with everyone! I’m really proud of it and I hope everyone loves it as much as I do!”

It was directed by Sydney director Gabriel Gasparinatos, who has previously collabed with Baker on the video for ‘Cool As Hell‘, which picked up a nomination for Best Video at this year’s ARIAs. He says the NGV were pretty accommodating for the video, giving the crew “free reign” within the gallery walls.

“We were really interested in juxtaposing the camera and talent movement with the spaces they found themselves in. I love the idea of reworking classical imagery into something new, young and playful. Baker Boy represents the changing face of the Australian music industry, and I’m so humbled to be a part of that journey.”
