Hottest 100 champ Chet Faker has unveiled a brand new song this morning, debuting Bend – his first new song since releasing his award winning debut album Built On Glass – along with announcing a handful of Australian tour dates this October and November.
These shows, dubbed the Built On Live tour, will see Faker perform rarely heard live songs, as well as tunes from his debut album, with an expanded band and special guests, at some of the country’s most prestigious venues.
He will perform at Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl, Brisbane’s Riverstage, and will play a special show at the Forecourt of the Sydney Opera House. They will be Faker’s last shows supporting Built On Glass.
The Melbourne muso explained to triple j this morning that Bend is actually a b-side from Built On Glass that was cut at the final hour. The song lived on though and now he’s ready to unleash it upon the world.
Chet Faker is recording the follow-up to his ridiculously successful 2014 debut at his home studio in Brooklyn, and said recently that he hopes the record will focus on organic performance-based grooves.
Faker said he is “using a lot of real players to get that human groove that you can’t manufacture”. He might even have some interesting collaborations in store, given that, a few weeks ago, he shared a photo of himself hanging out with Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s Ruban Nielson.
The producer extraordinaire is currently playing shows on a European tour, including a stop at the upcoming Glastonbury festival, where he’ll need to have some words with the festival’s art department after they facked up the Melbourne musician’s name, mistakenly calling him “Chet Facker” on the event’s official lineup poster.
