Nick Murphy is one of Australia’s best known singer-songwriters and producers, but you probably know him better as Chet Faker.
Under the Faker monicker, Murphy has released a platinum ARIA #1 album Built On Glass and made regular appearances on the past four triple j Hottest 100’s – but now, he’s decided it’s time to ditch the alias.
From now on, Faker will tour and record under his actual name, Nick Murphy. He took to social media to make the announcement, shortly after changing his Twitter to Nick.
“It’s been half a decade since I started releasing music as Chet Faker and all of you have been the driving force behind the music since,” he said. ” There’s an evolution happening and I wanted to let you know where its going.
“The next record will be under my own name, Nick Murphy,” he continued. Chet Faker will always be part of the music. This is next.”
Will a Chet by any other name still sound as sweet? Only time will tell.
UPDATE 09/09/16 12pm: Turns out Chet Faker’s name change was pretty good news for heaps of other Aussie musos.
