Danny Brown Is Putting The “Final Touches” On His Next Album

Danny Brown has let his fans know that he’s putting “final touches” on the follow-up to 2013’s Old.

He posted a picture next to producer mixedbyali writing, “Me and the bruh bruh @mixedbyali putting the final touches on my next masterpiece.”

It’s been a long three years since Old, the record that broke the rapper into the mainstream, but it feels like he hasn’t really left us. He toured with Groovin The Moo festival this year and appears on The Avalanches long-awaited new single Frankie Sinatra. He’ll also feature on another track on The Avalanches’ album Wozard Of Iz.

In January, he said that he was “praying” the album would come out in 2016 but then he tweeted in April saying that he was “so ahead of schedule” he was going to take a break from it. He also said, “it ain’t coming out no time soon.”

As for the direction of the record, there are no real clues apart from one thing he said earlier in the year (via NME).

“With Old, I made songs for me to perform at festivals. With this album, instead of me making songs that would fit at a festival, I’m trying to create my own songs to perform at a festival.”

It’s a confusing statement but even more confusing when you consider he said his favourite records of last year were Sufjan Stevens’ ‘Carrie & Lowell’ and Natalie Prass’ self-titled effort. That could suggest he’s heading for a more demure sound.
