Dave Navarro Says Jane’s Addiction Won’t Appear At Big Day Out 2014

UPDATE: Blur replacements have finally been announced – full details here!

Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro has denied that his band will be one of the two US acts that promoter AJ Maddah told Triple J are set to replace the cancelled Blur at BDO 2014. Navarro told a fan via Twitter that rumours of his coming to Australia aren’t true.

On Friday, AJ Maddah phoned into Triple J host The Doctor‘s drive time show to disclose a few details about Blur’s BDO replacement. Maddah initially told a Twitter follower that the replacement act/acts would be announced Friday, but contract issues with one of the bands intervened.

Maddah revealed that there would three acts replacing Blur, one from the UK and two from the US, with one of the US bands failing to get their contract into promoters before taking their Thanksgiving sabbatical. Maddah also mentioned that the guitarist in one of the US bands had “TV commitments.”

The Doctor replied that he knew a guitarist in a US band that has a TV show and “doesn’t wear a shirt very often,” which prompted many media outlets to speculate that the guitarist in question could be Navarro, who hosts the tattoo art-centred reality competition show Ink Master on channel Spike.

Maddah’s reply, “I’m not going to comment on people’s shirtlessness, I’ll leave it to your imagination,” led many to believe that the touring mogul was avoiding the implication and attempting to change the subject. But now the shirtless guitarist himself has told fans, “Sorry, that isn’t true!”

Maddah also told Triple J that promoters would have to “hold till Monday night our time” to get the unfinished contract processed, which saw some outlets reporting that the official replacement announcement would happen Monday. Maddah took to Twitter to clear up these reports, saying:

“Just to clarify, we’re expecting our last contract Monday afternoon Los Angeles time, so hoping to announce Tuesday evening in Aus”

Maddah also told The Doctor that the UK band should “soothe” the pains of those who were looking for a more nostalgic Big Day Out experience and that he wasn’t sure if they’d see the money from their Blur investment again, saying the band’s “international costs” had been paid for “up front.”
