Following grunge icons Pearl Jam‘s highly-awaited spot on Big Day Out 2014 (and the news that they won’t be playing sideshows), legendary frontman and singer-songwriter in his own right Eddie Vedder will embark on his own series of solo tour dates hitting Australian theatres this February.
While Pearl Jam have maintained their status as one of the world’s most popular rock bands for well over a decade, witnessing Vedder take the stage solo, armed only with a set of guitars and his infamous ukelele, is a unique experience that Australian fans last experienced in 2011.
Vedder’s solo exploits were first heard as soundtrack contributions to the films of friend Sean Penn — to Dead Man Walking in 1995 and to I Am Sam in 2001 — before penning the entirety of the soundtrack for Penn’s 2007 adaptation of Into The Wild, which received a rave critical reception.
Following the release of the Into The Wild soundtrack, which won a raft of awards, including a 2008 Golden Globe Award for the song Guaranteed, Vedder embarked on multiple solo tours across North America, Europe and Australia, garnering positive reviews from fans and critics alike.
Vedder followed his last Australian tour with the release of a sophomore album, Ukulele Songs. The man will have songs from both of his solo records as well as some choice Pearl Jam cuts when he launches his Australian solo tour at the Riverside Theatre in Perth on Friday, 7th February.
UPDATE 17/12/13: Chugg Entertainment have taken to their Facebook page to announce the addition of new shows for fans in Sydney and Melbourne. Vedder will now play additional shows at Sydney’s State Theatre on Wednesday, 12th February and at the Palais Theatre on Wednesday, 19th February. Tickets for all shows are on sale tomorrow at 10:00AM local time.
