Fall Out Boy Announce New Album ‘American Beauty/American Psycho’, Premiere Title Track

Fall Out Boy will release their sixth studio album, American Beauty/American Psycho, in January 2015. The Illinois band have now premiered the album’s title track, which sees the group continuing to move towards a heavier pop-punk sound.

Taking to Facebook, Fall Out Boy prefaced their album announcement with a strange mini-narrative about animal domestication. “The idea that no matter how much an animal is domesticated – there is still something wild in it,” the post read.

“Declawed but we take/make the best monsters. We semi-civilize them. We put bears in suits on tricycles. We keep wolves warm from the winter in hen houses. Then we wonder why they maul the hearts of what we hold the most dear.”

The band also included a quote from American writer Henry Miller which read, “The cancer of time is eating us away. Our heroes have killed themselves, or are killing themselves. The hero then, is not time, but timelessness.” The band’s post can be read in full, below.

The announcement came after FOB premiered the American Beauty/American Psycho single on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio One show. It’s a classic Fall Out Boy single, with definite arena sing-a-long potential. The song’s “Oooh Oooh”ing chorus leads into an odd Hokey-Pokey-referencing section with a pop-jingle vibe, but there’s plenty of energy at work.

It follows the release of the new album’s first single Centuries, and a song for the Big Hero 6 film soundtrack called Immortals.

American Beauty/American Psycho the album will be available to pre-order beginning 15th December. The American Beauty/American Psycho single will see a worldwide digital release on 8th December, with the album out worldwide on 20th January 2015.
