FBi Social Is Closing But Not Before One Final Blowout

Sydney’s beloved community radio station FBi has announced its live music venue FBi Social will be closing its doors this November and will be going out with a bang, announcing a final blowout to be held at the venue on Saturday, 1st November.

Originally established as a 3 month pop up venue, FBi Social has been opened for three and a half years now, during which time more than 1000 local artists have taken to the stage and over 40,000 punters have walked through the doors.

Acts who have played there include DZ Deathrays, Deep Sea Arcade, Ball Park Music, Bleeding Knees Club, The Preatures, Elizabeth Rose, RUFUS, Husky, Chet Faker, Kilter and the Jezabels, amongst many, many more.

Not all hope is lost for Sydney live music lovers as just a week after FBi Social’s closure, the venue, located on Level 2 of Kings Cross Hotel, will be reopened by owners Solotel as the Bandroom, set to host the best in local and national talent.

“We’re extremely proud that FBi Social has provided young and emerging local musicians, comedians and artists in this city a place to perform, often for the first time in front of a live audience,” said FBi Radio President Cassandra Wilkinson. “Solotel have been the most fantastic partners and we share a commitment to fostering live music in this city. We’re so glad to see this beautiful intimate room stay open as a live music venue.”

To celebrate its tenure as a loved Sydney venue, FBi Social will throw one final party to top off their time at Kings Cross Hotel with some of the venue’s favourite local acts, including World’s End Press, Mansionair, And (Dave Rennick) and FBi DJs coming together for a farewell party.

The closing of FBi Social will allow the station to focus on other projects such as FBi Click, a new digital station for electronic music, as well as Northern Lights, a nationwide competition which sees winning artists LUCIANBLOMKAMP and The Walking Who heading to Iceland next month to play at the prestigious Iceland Airwaves Festival.
