Five Finger Death Punch Deny Breakup Rumours After Awkward Onstage Meltdown

“Memphis Meltdown” might sound like the name of Five Finger Death Punch‘s newest face-melting blues metal fusion jam, but unfortunately that’s not quite what went down onstage at Tennessee’s Beale Street Music Festival over the weekend.

Instead, the Las Vegas metal act suffered a tense tiff that sparked rumours of an imminent breakup. According to Blabbermouth, the band battled through six songs, before the instrumental section stormed off, leaving singer Ivan Moody to fend for himself onstage.

Thanks to smartphone-happy fans at the show, we can now see footage of the frontman, seemingly confused, singing acapella and rambling awkwardly at the crowd before unceremoniously walking off the stage and cutting the show short.

Despite social media rumours flying around, predicting Five Finger Death Punch’s demise, the band have blamed the ugly incident on technical difficulties, and assured fans that they are still, in fact, a band.

“We did NOT break up!” drummer Jeremy Spencer posted on Facebook. “Things went sideways with technical issues. Ivan got pissed and took it out onstage. It was a bad night, to say the least. He has since apologized. But we are 100% still a band and look forward to seeing you all on tour!”

His comments echo an official statement from singer, Ivan Moody, also denying the breakup rumours and apologising for his behaviour after losing his cool when he was unable to hear himself or other band members. Read his statement in full below.

Five Finger Death Punch were last in Australia as part of Soundwave 2014. They’re also set to unleash a new album this year, which they’ve also just announced will be entitled Got Your Six. A snippet of one of the forthcoming disc’s songs, called Ain’t My Last Dance, can be streamed below.

A message from Ivan: There were a lot of technical problems last night that were seemingly unsolvable. We had to make…

Ivan Moody’s statement:

“There were a lot of technical problems last night that were seemingly unsolvable. We had to make a decision whether to hit the stage crippled, without being able to hear ourselves; or, delay the start of the show — possibly for hours. We decided to proceed, but not being able to hear if I was in key and just guessing where we were in the song frustrated me to the point that I lost my cool.

I’m not saying I handled it appropriately. Matter of fact, I’ve never been so embarrassed before.

I apologize for taking out my anger on stage.

You guys know me and you know how I pride myself on my live performances. I’d never want this to boil over into something that epically wrong ever again.

To some of our crew, good luck in your future endeavors. We wish you the best. We also welcome our new monitor engineer Paul Weber.

To our fans in Memphis — we’ll make it up to you, I promise.

Houston, we we will see you tonight.

The rest of the world — yes, we are coming.

And to the haters… wipe that smirk off your face …We are not going anywhere.”
