Foo Fighters Are Going On An Indefinite Hiatus

UPDATE 03/03/16, 3.20PM: Foo Fighters have responded to break up rumours with a hilarious video message.

Original Story: We’re still waiting on the official announcement from the Foo Fighters due to come later today but it looks like drummer Taylor Hawkins has already revealed the band’s big news.

Artisan News (via Consequence Of Sound) published an interview with Hawkins from 16th January in which Hawkins confirms that the band are on an “indefinite hiatus”.

“We’re on ihateus right now, we’re on an indefinite ihateus,” Hawkins said jokingly switching around the spelling of hiatus.

The New York Post’s Page Six reported earlier this week that the band was going on a break, claiming it was because Grohl is going solo. According to a source, “Taylor is pissed about it,” but by the sounds of it there is no bad blood between them.

It “was not because we don’t love each other, or don’t want to make music together,” Hawkins clarified.

“We did so much in the last five or six years — we as a band could go into the studio tomorrow and have just as much fun as we ever had, but I think the world needs a break from us for a little while.”

When Foo Fighters took to social media to announce that they had some news fans feared the worst but were put at ease when a representative for the band called rumours that they were breaking up “utterly ridiculous”.

Last year Grohl hinted at a hiatus when they released their surprise EP Saint Celia cryptically writing at the time, “We could use a nice wander through the woods right about now. Another empty journal, another tap on the shoulder … those things are never far behind. It’s what lies ahead in those woods that excites me now.”

Foo Fighters have taken a hiatus before. They did so in 2008 but returned in 2011 with a new record Wasting Light and have since released another album Sonic Highways, produced a television show for HBO and been on huge tours.

It’s still yet to be confirmed whether this is the band’s official announcement but we will find out by the end of the day.
