Former ‘Australian Idol’ Winner Facing Jail Time On Drugs & Weapons Charges

UPDATE: Former ‘Australian Idol’ Winner Kate DeAraugo To Plead Guilty To Drugs & Weapons Charges

ORIGINAL STORY: Former Australian Idol winner Kate DeAraugo is facing possible jail time after allegedly being caught with drugs and weapons.

The 31-year-old singer, who took out first place on Idol in 2005, was allegedly found in possession of ice twice within five days in Shepparton, Victoria earlier this year, as Shepparton News reports.

Police allege the singer was caught with .43 grams of ice on 10th June, before being caught with a large quantity of ice, a large knife and a tomahawk just five days later. She was also allegedly found to be driving with drugs in her system.

DeAraugo is due to appear in Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on 4th October, to face drugs and weapons charges. She is reportedly facing up to 15 years behind bars.

DeAraugo released her debut album A Place I’ve Never Been shortly after winning Idol. She went on to be part of the Young Divas group, which also featured fellow Idol contestant Paulini, who is also currently facing jail time after admitting to bribing a government official.

DeAraugo released her latest single ‘Shut Your Mouth’ in 2015.
